Open air roadsters are a thing of the past, an era in automotive where the only thing that mattered was performance and weight was the number one enemy. As time passed, automakers found ways to keep the driver out of the elements without sacrificing speed and handling, but the fact is there’s nothing like driving a car without a roof or windshield.
Aston Martin knows this and for 2022 they are bringing back the windshield-less roadster with the V12 Speedster. The Speedster will be an ultra-limited collection car of which just 88 will be built. It costs $815,000 US and can only be used on a racetrack, but for collectors it may very well represent the pinnacle of Aston Martin.
The unique design mixes in modern touches like the massive anodized front grille with retro elements like the circle graphics on the doors and bonnet that pay homage to the Aston that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Nürburgring 24 Hours in 1959. Inside, however, the interior is all modern and luxurious. The 5.2-litre V12 engine pushes out 700 horsepower which you can clearly hear because, well, there’s nothing really between your ears and the exhaust, save the helmet.
The Aston Martin V12 Speedster is yet another example of a car that takes Aston Martin’s rich history, and brings it into the future.
