For Aston Martin owners who need more than two seats, the choice has always come down to one model: the DBX. Today, the DBX comes in two distinct...
Aston Martin vehicles have been their reputation on sleek designs, impressive performance, and exclusivity. That said, only the most die-hard enthusiasts will remember a model that took Aston Martin to a brand-new and unorthodox segment, the Aston Martin Cygnet.
The Cygnet launched in 2010 as a small, urban city car that was first and foremost a way for Aston Martin to meet EU fleet average emission regulations. With a fleet of V12 engines at the time, Aston Martin needed the Cygnet’s 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine that delivered 97 horsepower. Granted, Aston Martin couldn’t help themselves and they eventually built a version of the Cygnet with a 430-horsepower.
The car was based off the Toyota iQ, but had some high-end touches including a full leather interior, but yes, it was essentially a small subcompact Toyota with an Aston Martin badge.
It’s not surprising that the Cygnet, today, is almost legendary. No other car like it exists, and only 300 were made total. That would explain why a particular Aston Martin Cygnet has just sold for $50,000 US at an auction in the UK. This particular model has a Bitter Chocolate” interior, and only 12,000 miles.
The new owner certainly has a unique piece of automotive history in hand.
